Newcastle’s not known as a hotbed of soul talent but that may be set to change with the emergence of new soul duo SOULUTIONS. The team is a girl/boy pairing (Louise and Steve) and they write and produce all their own material. Louise is SouLution’s singer and she’s been winning talent shows since she was knee high to that proverbial grasshopper! More recently she received rapturous applause when she joined Candi Staton on stage at one of David Gest’s soul extravaganzas.
SouLutions then recorded a cool modern soul groove called ‘Listen’ and sent it off to soul entrepreneur Gary Van Den Bussche (check his celebrated page @ www.facebook.com/DiscoSoulGold ) Gary was suitably impressed and to cut a long story short the iconic Drizabone team got involved and agreed to remix the song and the result is summer soul magic. ‘Listen’ is as sweet as any groove that Drizabone have ever worked on and the tune’s already getting airplay from the all best radio DJs. Jazz FM’s Peter Young’s played it out last week and his lines went white hot with enquiries. Good old PY simply calls ‘Listen’ ”The Hit of the summer”…. and he’s not often wrong!
SouLutions have another great tune in the can – ‘Philly Line’, a song celebrating the best of Philly, resulting from their meeting with the legendary O’Jays at the Sigma studios. There’s an album on the way too – and what better title for it than ‘Modern Soul’!
