‘Poetry In Motion’ was a huge 1960 pop hit for Johnny Tillotson. It also happens to be the title of a new soul album from New Orleans band, THE SOUL REBELS. The 12 tracker is the outfit’s first release for over seven years and, coming from New Orleans, it is, as you’d expect, a mix of flavours and styles- soul, jazz, R&B, funk, hip-hop, Latin …. all set in a brassy, percussive framework.
The set features an impressive guest list. Amongst the contributors are Robert Glasper, Branford Marsalis, PJ Morton and Trombone Shorty.
Soul Rebel Julian Gosin says: “This new album reflects our sound and style and challenges and expands upon the perception of a new Orleans brass band. We are breaking stylistic and artistic boundaries of what it means to be a brass group from New Orleans”.
The album is out today (25th October) on Artistry/Mack Avenue.
