SOMEBODY PLEASE…

Fans of harmony group soul and Lowrider music will know all about the Vanguards’ 1969 cult classic ‘Somebody Please’ (below). Released on both the Wizz and L&M labels, it’s now something of a rarity. However, if you want to catch up on this lovely deep, harmony ballad, may we point you to a new cover version just out from THEE HEART TONES.

You might know that the young Californian band are gearing up to release their album ’Forever & Ever’  (above) and their version of ‘Somebody Please’ is one of the focus tracks. It’s  now available as a standalone single and shows that the band know more than a little about proper, retro soul and the whole Chicano/Lowrider scene.

Thee Heart Tones (with the sweet vocals of Jazmine Alvarado out front) deliver a faithful copy – full on harmonies and  bags of soulful emotion. They pass, though, on the bass voice part which comes midway through the original – it doesn’t spoil the feel and vibe though. It’s a good ‘un and we look forward to the album!

Out now via Big Crown.
