GINA SEDMAN is a soulstress with an interesting story. You may well know her by her former persona – GINA CAREY. You may also know that Gina (Carey or Sedman) is a Chicago-born, LA-raised soul singer with a prolific track record. She’s released some 13 long players since her 1996 debut; she’s worked on 3 gospel-based stage shows; she’s published a book; she ran her own label and an entertainment company; and she’s the creator of her own web series. More recently she featured on Dave Lee’s album ‘Produced with Love 2’
Last year Gina moved to the UK and now fronts her own band, together making a name for themselves in and around the London club scene. There’s an album in the pipeline with the lead single ‘Smile’ just having been released.
This ‘Smile’ is a meandering ballad but the emotive vocal betrays Gina’s years in the business. That track record has also allowed her to invite in plenty of “name” players to help out – people like Michael J Cahoun (of the Kinsman Dazz Band) on guitar and Kevin Flournoy on electric piano. On the track, talented Gina also plays bass while her husband Andrew Sedman plays congas. Mr S was also at the desk for the remix which is also available right now. The album, ‘Valuable People’ will be released in November.
