THE GROOMS are one of soul’s great unknown bands… hardly surprising, they only released one single and that was way back in the mid 70s. Released on the Shiptown label (based in Norfolk, Virginia), it paired the mid-tempo, funk track ‘Slow Down’ with a soulful ballad ‘I Deserve A Little Bit More’.
As is often the way with obscure soul, the single is about to be resurrected. Rediscovered by the people at Acid Jazz, it’s soon to be available as a 7” single and it’s the rough, devastating ballad B side that impresses most… a gritty mix of tight harmonies and unhinged emotion. It will be available from 16th October on Acid Jazz’s Miles Away imprint.
