Over the last few years, GIGI HAROLD, recording and performing as “Gg” ,has won plenty of followers in the soul and jazz communities. Her last album, 2019’s ‘Kintsugi Heart’ widened her appeal and she now follows that with ‘Sketches From Eden’.
Like ‘Kintsugi Heart’, ‘Sketches’ offers an eclectic mix of blue-eyed soul flavours laced with a generous jazzy undertow. Most soulful cut is the mid-tempo ‘Boyfriend’ while the best of the up-tempo are ‘When You See The Light’ and the Rod Layman mix of ‘March Of Time’.
Musicians on the album include Kenny Wellington, David Baptiste, Paul Mclean, Dave Rowlands, Brian Harris, Mike Goodman, Rob Blackham and Andy Pickering. The star of the show though is Gg’s very particular and idiosyncratic voice which has attracted lots of supporters across internet soul radio.
Gg ‘Sketches from Eden’ is released on June 4th.
