Rising jazz trumpeter THEO CROKER releases his third album for Sony Masterworks, ‘Star People Nation,’ on May 17th.
The 33-year-old Florida-born horn player, who’s the grandson of Grammy-winning trumpet legend, Doc Cheatham, produced the 10-track album himself in Brooklyn. It features noteworthy cameos from R&B chanteuse, Rose Gold – on the sumptuously dreamy ‘Getaway Gold’ – and singer/rapper Chronixx (on ‘Understand Yourself’) plus significant contributions from pianist ELEW (on ‘The Messenger,’ a homage to jazz drummer Elvin Jones) and alto saxophonist Irwin Hall.
The new album follows in the wake of 2014’s similarly eclectic ‘Afrophysicist’ and 2016’s ‘Escape Velocity’ and seamlessly blends jazz with hip-hop, R&B, electronica and African flavours.
‘Star People Nation’ is out on May 17th via Masterworks on CD, LP and download.
