Seminal jazz-funkers, SHAKATAK, have been in business for 32 years. Built around a core of BILL SHARPE (keys), GILL SAWARD (vocals), GEORGE ANDERSON (Bass) and ROGER ODELL (drums), SHAKATAK have a unique sound and a dedicated fan base that has kept the band working constantly since their breakthrough in 1980 with the long player, ‘Drivin’ Hard’.
To celebrate the band’s longevity, their label SECRET RECORDS LIMITED is making available a pair of exceptional retrospectives. The first is a simple ‘Best Of …’set. The album is an 18 tracker and includes all the key stops in SHAKATAK’S career trajectory like ‘Easier Said Than Done’, ‘Night Birds’ and ‘Down On The Street’. The album also boasts a number of fan favourites like ‘Living In The UK’ and ‘Out Of This World’ along with the AL JARREAU collaboration, ‘Day By Day’. Release date for the collection is November 26th.
Already available is a second SHAKATAK retrospective – ‘The 12″ Mixes’. The title is, of course, self-explanatory. The 2 CD pack boast 25 full length remixes of all the band’s big hits – the mixes that ensured SHAKATAK’S success in the first instance. Fans of the band will be delighted to learn that some of the band’s B sides (like ‘I Lose Myself’ and ‘Fly The Wind’) have been specially remixed for the project which offers an alternative listening experience to the straightforward ‘Best Of …’ collection.
Both albums are available through the label’s web site – www.streetrecordslimited.com
