Black Lives In Music is a new organisation established to address racial inequality in the music industry and create opportunities for Black musicians and professionals. The company offers a weekly five-part video series on YouTube hosted by presenter Zeze Millz who has just interviewed Sons Of Kemet’s leader Shabaka Hutchings about his group’s new album (Black To The Future, released on May 14th) and aspects of his art and life.
“My whole career has been a battle to come to terms with my own style,” explains Shabaka. “Only when I encountered the music in an environment that made me feel welcome, that I could see that this was a viable option for someone like me.”
