Coming together in 1995, New Orleans’ idiosyncratic HOT 8 BRASS BAND have been steadily building up a legion of fans beguiled by their mix of traditional Crescent City brass band sounds, hip-hop rhythms and funk flavours. The group, who regularly march on the customary Sunday second-line parades and who are in demand to lead New Orleans funeral marches, cut a remarkable debut set- ‘Rock with the Hot 8’. From that album their version of MARVIN GAYE’S ‘Sexual Healing’ became an underground classic. Well now the tune’s back – bigger and better – in a ME AND YOU re-edit. The new take retains the charming peculiarity of the original but is edited down to a digestible 5 minutes. It’s the centrepiece on a new 9 tracker from Brighton’s Tru Thoughts label – ‘Hot 8 Brass Band …Remixes’.
