“SENSATIONAL” NOSTALGIA!

The latest album from Philly revival label, SOCIETY HILL RECORDS celebrates the distaff side of the music of the City Of Brotherly Love with a memory-tugging 14 track compilation, ‘The Sensational Ladies Of Society Hill’.

The “ladies” are soul  vets Carla Benson, Jean Carne, Tesa Williams, Fillies Finaz and Kat Fontaine alongside relative newcomers Ter-Ree, Tena Riley,  and Lady J. The songs they deliver are a pleasing mix of Philly classics, other soul gems and a smattering of orignals – written and produced to fit the Philly sonic  template.

Amongst the highlights are a seven minute version of the Isleys’ ‘For The Love Of You’ from Carla Benson, Tena Riley’s take on Maze’s ‘Joy And Pain’  and Ter Ree’s cover of the soul gem that is the Royalettes’ ‘It’s Gonna Take A Miracle’.  They’re three great songs and it would be hard to get ‘em wrong! Here  the Society Hill team deliver them in a faithful, soulful style.

It’s worth noting that some of the included tracks, like Fillies Finaz’s  cover of the Emotions’ ‘So I Can Love You’ have been out before as singles or as part of EPs/albums but good to have them all assembled here “under one roof” as it were! Out now!
