ABI FARRELL is a new name to us here @SJF but on the evidence of her latest single ‘I Will See You Through’ we’re hoping to hear a lot more.
Abi hails from Oxfordshire; not known as a soul hotbed – but it was there that she was brought up on female-driven soul and pop. She cites her influences as people like Aretha, Chaka Khan and the whole classic girl group sound. Ms F made her recording debut in 2019 with her EP ‘The Only Way I Learn’ which has amassed nearly 50K streams to date. Then a February 2020 meeting with Nick Corbin (whose CV includes work with Lack Of Afro) forged a song writing partnership and the first real fruit was ‘I Will See You Through’. Produced by Micth Ayling and recorded at Woods Lodge Studio in Essex, the track will be good to go from 23rd November on Big AC Records.
Sonically, ‘I Will See You Through’ channels an optimistic 60’s pop soul feel – midway between the classic Brill Building girl group sound and that of early Supremes. Abi sings sweetly as befits both the atmosphere and the sentiment and she’s clearly enjoying offering a contemporary twist to the classic 60’s uptown soul sound.
