The run of sad news for the LEVERT family continues with the announcement of the death of SEAN LEVERT at the age of 39. SEAN, it seems, had just begun a jail sentence for non-payment of child maintenance for his three children. He was incarcerated in the Cuyahoga County Jail in Cleveland, Ohio when on Monday, 31st April and known to be suffering from high blood pressure, he began hallucinating. He was rushed to Cleveland’s Lutheran Hospital where he died the next day. An autopsy was inconclusive, but foul play has been ruled out and toxicology reports are currently being carried out. It is alleged that SEAN had been a marijuana addict since his early teens. His passing comes in the wake of the premature death of his brother GERALD in 2006. With GERALD and MARC GORDON and performing as LEVERT, SEAN had enjoyed hits in the late 80s, the best known possibly being ‘Casanova’ though soul fans will probably remember ‘Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop Goes My Mind’ with more affection. GERALD and SEAN, of course, were sons of the legendary O’JAYS’ vocalist EDDIE LEVERT who is said to be devastated by the news. On behalf of the family a spokesperson issued a statement thanking people for their condolences and stating that Sean was “a man of strong character with a real zest for life”. Prior to his imprisonment, Sean was trying to revive LEVERT with new partners.
