‘My Folks’ was always one of the choice cuts on ‘In The Moment’ – a January album from C C (Cornell Carter). The ex-session singer (work with people like Ray Charles, James Brown, The Whispers, The Temptations, the late Natalie Cole, Kool and the Gang and Narada Michael Walden) aimed the tune at the Steppers Scene but now he’s remixed it into a neater, more compact soul groove, sans those stepping instructions. The mix is dubbed “The Citi Rep Remix” (don’t ask!) and without the stepping exhortations it comes over as a better bet for the European modern soul scene. It’s available right now.
