Back in 1976, a duo called R&J STONE enjoyed a UK hit with a soft soul tune, ‘We Do It’. (below). The group were actually husband and wife Russell Oliver Stone and Joanne Stone who first met when working as part of James Last’s choir.
Joanne Stone died tragically early in 1979 and now Russell’s son, James has posted that his father has died: “To all his family and friends I am deeply saddened to let you all know that Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of the morning. For those of you that know him, you know his journey is just beginning.”
R&J Stone never matched the success of ‘We Do It’ and after his wife’s death, Russell stepped back from the music business. In later life he struggled with alcohol issues but did try to make a musical comeback of sorts – releasing three solo albums in the 2010s
