Acclaimed US keyboardist, ROGER SMITH’S name will be familiar to real soul and jazz buffs. He’s a long standing member of Tower of Power and has a string of classy solo albums to his name – most notably, 2000’s ‘Consider This’ which included the ab fab collaboration with the Temptations, ‘I’ll Always Love You’.
Right now, Mr Smith is working on a project dubbed “JAZZ ROSCO” (named, we’re guessing from two of the man’s solo albums – ‘Rosco’s Place’ (2004) and ‘Rosco’s Place 2’ (2010) ) We’ve learned that Jazz Rosco is a loose collective that, at various times, might include, artists like fellow Tower of Power musicians David Garibaldi, Adolfo Acosta, Tom Politzer, and Marcus Scott, as well as Prince and Sheila E. saxophonist Eddie “M” Mininfield, The Temptations, former Santana vocalist Tony Lindsay and eight-time Grammy winner and Carlos Santana’s percussionist Karl Perazzo!
Grab a taste of Jazz Rosco via their latest single – a solid, catchy, contemporary soul groove, ‘Standing Right Here’. The lineup on this one is vocalist Marcus D. Scott, guitarist Julian Hoover, drummer Brian Collier and, of course, Roger himself. This one comes highly recommended and the good news is that we’re told there’s plenty more Jazz Rosco singles lined up for the rest of the year!
