ROSE SPEARMAN is a mixed race soulstress who, last time we heard, was based in Holland. She has an impressive CV that includes performances at places like Glastonbury and the Montreux and the North Sea Jazz Festivals and she’s crossed genres via collaborations with people like Kerri Chandler, Roger Sanchez, Solomon Burke, Jools Holland and KT Tunstall.
She has some decent singles in her locker including ‘After The Summer Falls’ which won plenty of support in its Nigel Lowis mix. For her latest outing Ms S has once again teamed up with our Nige for a thumping, throwback sound, ‘Live Like A Rocket’.
We’re told that the song is about Rose’s father, an Afro American jazz musician born in New York who spend most of his life in San Francisco. It’s said that he lived fast, hard and on the edge of it all. Not always in an healthy way but he was full of dynamic energy. Rose, therefore asked Nigel to create a mix that reflected that energy and dynamism. She says: “I can never get enough of Nigel Lowis uplifting, incredible soulful groove vibes. So, I asked him to do a remix on ‘Live Like a Rocket’ an homage to the 70’s and 80’s. in his own unique style. I grew up in the 80’s and loved the Soul songs at that time. It inspired me to start singing. If this song doesn’t make you want to get up and dance, skate or at least tap your toe …then you need to call me because then we need to talk”. Consider yourself told! Out now!
