After receiving a Grammy nomination for last year’s ‘Double Booked’ album – an album that juxtaposed straight ahead trio jazz with contemporary hip-hop/R&B styles – pianist ROBERT GLASPER is back with a new album for Blue Note in February 2012. It’s called ‘Black Radio‘ and is the Texas-born musician’s first full urban-flavoured album by his band ROBERT GLASPER EXPERIMENT. It features an array of star contributors, among them ERYKAH BADU, LALAH HATHAWAY, BILAL, LEDISI, STOKELY WILLIAMS (from MINT CONDITION), MUSIQ SOULCHILD, MESHELL NDEGEOCELLO, MOS DEF and LUPE FIASCO.
If you want to catch Robert Glasper in concert, he’s in the UK right now – he playing King’s Place tonight (Thursday 17th November) as part of the London Jazz Festival and then ventures north to Nottingham’s Bjanogly Theatre (on the 19th) and Manchester’s Band On The Wall (on the 21st) before touring Europe.
Look out for an interview with Robert soon at SJF.
