THE BAHAMA SOUL CLUB are a German-based soul-jazz outfit led by Oliver Belz and till the lockdown they were working on a new album in Portugal. The band did manage to complete some tracks and one has just won single release… it’s a mesmeric, atmospheric, sinister ‘Never Roam No More’.
The single’s USP is that it contains an extended sample from JOHN LEE HOOKER’S 1946 recording ‘My First Wife Left Me’. You’ll know that Hooker always injected a real menace into this work and that other worldly menace is what drives ‘Never Roam No More’ along. It’s insistent and intriguing; edgy, threatening even and it’s out now on Buyu Records.
