Despite the lockdowns and pandemic, it’s been a good 18 months for Detroit based LAURA RAIN AND THE CAESARS (essentially husband and wife team – guitarist George Friend and vocalist Laura Rain). During the enforced lockdowns they went on what they called a “Soul Journey” – regularly releasing a series of singles which culminated in the gorgeous ‘Closer To The Win’. Rightly, a huge hit and a sell out when released on 7” vinyl by LRK Records.
The good news is that Laura and team are working on a new album with LRK. It’s due next year but we’ve already enjoyed a taster via the recent single ‘I Am’ – a soulful oeuvre with full-on optimism.
Next week (October 22nd to be precise) Laura releases another cut from the LP. It’s an organ-led, old school Detroit flavoured ‘Rise Again’. Busy and bustling, it’s bound to add momentum to Laura’s upward career trajectory and once again it underlines Ms. Rain’s soul credibility as it builds to a powerful climax. We look forward to the album which, we’re told, is named for this single!
