RIGHT DECISIONS….

Latest release from UK niche soul reissue specialist, SOUL DIRECTION pairs two classic group sounds from Atlanta band THE DECISIONS.

The Decisions were formed in 1965 and consisted of Hildred Thomason, Fred White, Henry Little, Howard Simpson and Harvey Poole who soon left to join the military. Finding a record deal was tough back then, so the quartet formed their own label, York Records. Two local hits brought the boys to the attention of Sussex Records where they enjoyed some success with ‘I Can’t Forget About You’ and ‘Stop Playing Around’. The Decisions stayed with Sussex till 1973 then split – with three of the group going on to form Unity – a band that recorded for Apex Records.

The two “new” Soul Direction tracks date from 1968 and both ‘We’re In Love’ and ‘I Love You’ have never been released. Soul Direction head boy, Alan Kitchener, believes the songs were recorded during the band’s York days and sent off to a bigger LA based label – where they sort of disappeared, till now. The single’s A side is the mid-tempo ‘We’re In Love’ and like the slower B side  ‘I Love You’, it’s a classic 60s soul harmony group tune – owing a lot to “name” groups, especially the Impressions and the Intruders.  The single is out now and it’s provenance and sound perfectly sum up Soul Direction’s mission statement… “to unearth unreleased soul music from the vaults and bring them to you on vinyl, enabling you to enjoy previously unissued quality soul music from all the genres and eras”.
