RIDING HIGH…..

GILBERT PRYOR is a Washington born trumpet player and educator. Sometimes called “Doc”, he’s worked with soul and jazz royalty – including Billy Eckstine and Aretha Franklin and authoredSoulful Funky Riffs: The Beginners Guide to Soulful and Funky Improvisation’ (available now from Amazon, by the way). From time to time Gilbert also records in his own right and currently he has single on offer… ‘Let’s Ride’. It’s a tasty mix of smooth jazz (great trumpet lines  … you’d expect that though) and sophisticated soul with feisty vocal from sometime Chic singer Sylver Logan Sharp.

The cut was originally recorded in 2017 but Gilbert and his colleague William Smith (both professors of music at Bowie State University) polished it up in the college studios and it’s now good to go. Ride on!
