I guess you remember Black Box’s 1989 smash ‘Ride On Time’ – a bombastic slab of what popularity is known as “Italo House’, it’s saving grace was the sample from Loleatta Holloway’s ‘Love Sensation’.
Now here’s a little surprise… the song is back amongst us! Aussie band THE BAMBOOS have just unleashed (an appropriate word in this case) their version of the song. As you might guess, the Lance Ferguson 9 piece offer a very different perspective on the tune. They call it a “reinvention” … with tight and tough rhythms, a haunting organ, a booming bassline, a three-piece horn section carrying the hook and a fab and feisty vocal from long-time Bamboo collaborator KYLIE AULDIST. Cleverly Ms A doesn’t try to copy Loleatta, she just does it her own way – big and brash, forceful and fierce… it all works beautifully and it’s good to go now via Pacific Theatre Records!
We believe that the single comes from an upcoming Bamboos LP – ‘Hard Up’ which features input from SJF favourite Durand Jones. We look forward to that. In the meantime, “just Ride On Time!”
