THE REQUESTORS are a new UK soul band made up of vocalist Vivienne McKone, Toby Baker and Gabriel Garrick – so yes a ”new” band, but the various members are no newcomers to the music biz.
Ms McKone is a veteran singer/songwriter with a number of recordings to her name and she’s shared stages with many big names. Oh, and she’s the brother of man about Brit soul, Ernie McKone. Toby Baker is a long standing musical colleague of Ernie – they work together in Soul Talk while Toby’s also worked with a veritable who’s who of soul talent. For his part Gabriel (son of late English jazz pianist Michael Garrick), is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music.
All that talent and experience is synthesised into the “new” band’s debut single – a gentle, mid-paced ‘Love Has To Be Easy’. Like the title, it’s easy on the ear but never bland. It’s out tomorrow , October 6th.
