LUKE SMITH is a UK based pianist, songwriter and producer who in 2020 had a bad dose of Covid! He recovered (thankfully) to deliver a five track mini album, ‘It’s Time’. With guest input from people like guitar man Tony Remy and Roy Ayers, it was well received and Luke described the music as “a contemporary jazz offering”… no one argued!
Luke has now just released a new “contemporary jazz offering” – and it harks back to Covid and all that! It’s a funky, little builder of a tune, ‘Lockdown 2.0’. You won’t be surprised to learn that the tune was written during the lockdown and it features Joey Grant, Mcknasty, Charlie Allen and veteran sax man Andrew Michael Ross.
The ingredients are simple – sassy bass line, rhythmic guitar, melodic Rhodes, sweet brass fills, soulful sax solo – but together they create a memorable jazz-funk tune that might just make you recall the best of George Duke. Listen up to the clever ending too!
This ‘Lockdown 2.0’ is quality head nodding, jazz-funk! It’s out now and dedicated to bassist Joey Grant who sadly died last year aged just 30.
