Latest release from ever-eclectic Ramrock Red Records is a four track EP from Italian composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Stefano De Santis. The mini album is ‘Unreachable Galaxy’.
On the set clever old Stefano plays Rhodes, piano, clavinet, Prophet 5, Moog, Solina String Ensemble, and Juno 6 and handles the drum programming too. We’re told that he also rates Herbie Hancock as one of his heroes, while he cites other influences as Weather Report and Azymuth, so with that knowledge and the EP title, you should be getting some idea about the soundscapes he crafts – yep, electro, spaced out future jazz, broken beats, the odd Latino flourish and a growling funk undertow.
The EP’s title track melds all those flavours. ‘Cosmic Vibes’ offers more of the same while ‘Nova Laze’ is a little more laid back. The four tracker finishes with ‘Sick With Rhyme’ which (as the title suggests) features some slick (not “sick”) and quick rhyming from an unnamed (at least on my copy) female.
‘Unreachable Galaxy EP’ will be released on October 28th, 2022, on Ramrock Red Records.
