For the last few years now we’ve been tracking the career of Chicago soul singer RAJA-NEE. I’m sure Raja won’t mind us calling her a veteran. She broke through working with the Chi-Lites then in 1994 she teamed up with Jam and Lewis scoring US soul hits with ‘Turn It Up’ and ‘Walking Away With It’ but sadly her career was caught up in the demise of their Perspective Records.
More recently she’s released a slew of fine soul singles. Things like ‘Come Get This Love’, ‘Love In A Groove’ and latterly ‘Take My Breath’ all betrayed her Church-reared experience.
For some time Raja’s been promising us a full album, at last, it’s on its way. ‘The Sovereign Of 14742’ will be released on CD on August 28th and it will be available via her web site https://vreel.page/rajanee . However, to avoid exorbitant shipping costs, Raja has made a limited number of special signed copies of the CD available to soul scribe Mark Turner of the acclaimed Soul Strutter web site/blog. You can learn more about the CDs here https://soulstrutter.blogspot.com/
Sneak previews of the long player reveal a wonderful contemporary soul album with an old school feel. Amongst the highlights is a sensitive cover of the wonderful Bacharach/David song ‘One Less Bell To Answer’. Full album review here very soon.
