RAINBOW FUNKIN’

We recently enjoyed a trip down memory lane with a tune called ‘Think About’  from two seasoned Brits soul sisters HEATHER HAYWOOD and SUGAR RAINBOW. The song was an unashamed tribute to the great 80s Weekender days – no wonder it was a UK soul chart hit!

If you missed it, you can catch it again as one of the tracks on a three tune EP ‘Rainbow Funk’. ‘Think About’  still sounds good.

The EP’s two other tracks feature Sugar out on her own. The standout is a lovely version of the Stylistics’ ‘People Make The World Go Round’ . Sugar has always loved the song and decided to record it as a tribute to the great Thom Bell (who died last December) . This new take has a deep bass line that quite transforms the familiar song.

The EP’s third track is ‘I Feel  So Strong Without You’. This is another 80s throwback groove (there’s an annoyingly familiar bass line and guitar fills… Chic?). It’s  big and brash though the message of empowerment and freedom is totally contemporary!
