Based in Los Angeles, Montreal-born singer/songwriter DESSY DI LAURO describes herself as a ‘neo-ragtime’ artist and listening to ‘Let Me Hear You Say Hep Hep,’ the jaunty, infectious lead off cut, from her forthcoming five-song EP, it’s hard not to disagree. She first fused antique speakeasy-era jazz tropes with soul and hip-hop elements back in 2013, when she released the groundbreaking album, ‘This Is Neo-Ragtime.’ The new EP is slated for an August release and features rapper ANON as well as the Hep Cat Horns.
A former performer with Cirque du Soleil, Ms. Di Lauro writes and produces with her husband, Ric’key Pageot, currently touring with Madonna as her keyboardist, who has also co-written material for Jill Scott and Earth, Wind & Fire.
