QUINN DEVEAUX (real name Flynn Boudreaux) is a new age US soul man who peddles a unique take on retro soul, blues and gospel. He calls it “blue beat soul”.
Born in Gary, Indiana he was raised in the righteous gospel tradition but his parents were broad minded enough to allow him to enjoy secular music too. Thus he lapped up mother’s ’80s R&B and soul favourites and dad’s classic rock leanings. Then he discovered a certain Muddy Waters. Quin says: “I couldn’t believe the music. Didn’t seem real – that bone-raw emotion.” The young aspiring artist went onto explore more classic Chess/Chicago blues – before embracing the sounds of people like Ray Charles, Al Green and Bill Withers. All these influences (and more) can be heard in his music which he’s been releasing since 2009.
Quinn and his team are now gearing up to release a new album, ‘Leisure’ – due July 5th. In the meantime, the obligatory lead single is released tomorrow May 17th. It’s a heartfelt, throwback song – ‘You Got Soul’ – a melange of many of the influences we’ve just ;listed!
Of the song, Quin says: “Sometimes you meet someone that just moves you front to back and it’s hard to tell why… Their story is your story and I love that, so this is about that.” Sonically, it’s brassy with a southern country/soul feel and a sincere vocal – a tasty augury for the ‘Leisure’ album .
