PURPLE FUNKIN’

You might just know that today, June 7th is Prince’s birthday. By our calculations he would’ve been 65 – time for a pension and bus pass!

He is still sadly missed and his music continues to resonate and have immense influence… witness a new tune from Mothers Favourite Child & Saeeda Wright. It’s  called ‘Purple Funk’ (the name says it all!) and in its Opolopo mix it’s released today to commemorate P’s birthday!

Music producer and songwriter Paris Toon is the  brains behind Mothers Favourite Child while Saeeda Wright is a top soul session singer and sometime Prince cohort.  The team tell us that their tune ‘Purple Funk’ is MFC’s tribute to Prince and also pays homage to the band’s musical director and drummer, John Blackwell, who sadly passed away in recent times. Euro mix master Opolopo delivers plenty of bounce in his tweak and adds a delicious sax break. In the absence of Prince, this is worth investigating by his legions of fans .
