One of last year’s biggest soul hits was JULIAN JONAH’S ‘IF YOU WANNA (KNOW WHAT’S MISSING)’. You’ll probably know that Mr J is a UK soul and dance music vet with a CV that goes back to the 80s. Do you remember his 80s outings ‘Jealousy and Lies’ and ‘Hot To Touch’?
Well more recently Julian has crafted a more soulful sound as witnessed on ‘If You Wanna (Know What’s Missing)’. To make things a little confusing, that one came with two vocal mixes – one from Dutch Robinson (ex-Ohio Players); the other from Sugar Rainbow!
No such confusion on Julian’s latest offering – a big and brash ‘LET’S NOT SAY GOODNIGHT’ featuring the soulful vocals of ROBBIE LOVE (the daughter of the iconic soul and gospel star Mary Love Corner who sadly died in 2013. One of Robbie’s uncles was Charles Wright of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and her family were real close friends with people like Dennis Edwards, Willie Hutch and Lamont McLemore of the Fifth Dimension… no wonder this girl can sing!!!)
Like the aforementioned ‘If You Wanna (Know What’s Missing)’, ‘LET’S NOT SAY GOODNIGHT’ channels that wonderful optimistic 80s Weekender sound . There’s lush live strings, an infectious bass guitar riff, synths, a fab horn solo – and, of course, that mighty vocal, It’s catchy, beaty, irresistible!
‘LET’S NOT SAY GOODNIGHT’ is available via the coming together of JUS GROOVE, DSG Radio Promotions and IZIPHO SOUL RECORDS and is available digitally. The track will be released on an IZIPHO SOUL 7” single in early 2025; the B Side will also feature the glorious Robbie Love and is being kept under wraps until the record is out.
