The Daptone people know a great soul stylist when they hear one; thus they quickly snapped up young JALEN NGONDA and with a set of acclaimed singles behind him and an eagerly anticipated album on the way, looks like Daptone have found a winner in the Washington DC-born Jalen. Interestingly, though, our man learned his trade in the UK – in good old Liverpool to be precise. He studied at the city’s famed Institute Of Performing Arts (Paul McCartney is the patron) and after graduating (like a previous student Mamas Gun’s Andy Platts) he’s not looked back.
Jalen is now all set to launch a new single – an absolutely delightful ‘Come Around And Love Me’ – a song that really allows his spectacular soul falsetto to shine. From the song you can tell he’s been influenced by Motown classics (his dad was a huge fan). There’s a definite Marvin Gaye (circa ‘What’s Going On’) vibe running right through ‘Come Around And Love Me’.
The single is out now via Daptone and we believe there’s limited edition vinyl on offer with the song’s parent album due in September. Learn more @ https://daptonerecords.com/
