PLAYING WITH FIRE

The highly regarded British pianist Myra Melford – lauded by The Guardian for her “faintly Keith Jarrett-like piano meditations turning to brittle free-improv and percussive chord-themes that become bright, hoppy tunes” – brings her acclaimed Fire & Water Quintet to the Cheltenham Jazz Festival this May Bank Holiday.

Featuring tenor/soprano saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, guitarist Mary Halvorson, cellist Tomeka Reid and drummer/percussionist Susie Ibarra, Melford’s all-female quintet will be featuring music from their latest album, ‘For The Love Of Fire And Water,’ released on the Rogue Art label.

The group’s Cheltenham Jazz Festival performance will take place at the Parabola Arts Centre at Cheltenham Ladies College between 8.00 and 9.00 pm on Monday, May 2nd.
