DEE DEE SIMON is an Oakland based soulstress who first came to our attention back in 2018 with a searing soul ballad, ‘If I Leave You’. The team behind the song included D’Wayne Wiggins and Junita Wynn, guaranteeing soul quality. However, Ms Simon’s storming soul vocal was the star attraction. After investigation we learned that Dee Dee had debuted back in 1998 on Interscope with the Billboard hit, ‘As Long As I Live’ and she went on to work with people like Gladys Knight, Ron Isley, Jeffrey Osbourne and Maze.
So with such a great pedigree, we’re pleased to have some new music on her. Dee Dee, you see, has just released a new single, ‘The Player’. This is a fine throwback to the great 80 Weekender sounds that have remained so, so popular. The tune was written and produced by Neo (aka Stéphane D’Esposito) while the lyrics come via the mighty pen of Tony Haynes – who’s written for a host of stars including Evelyn Champagne King, Sounds of Blackness, Peabo Bryson, Angela Bofil, Keith Sweat, The Spinners, Taste Of Honey, The Emotions and many many more. The cherry on this sonic cake though is the soulful, passionate vocal from Dee Dee! We defy you not to move (something!) to this one!
