As recently reported in our news pages (check out our news archive) PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL RECORDS are currently celebrating their 40th anniversay and to commemorate the event they’ve lined up some tremendous compilations and reissues.
First up there’s ‘Philadelphia International Re-edits’ (our recent news story gives more details). However, for reasons not best explained, the release date has been put back from November 2011 to January 2012… but we’re confident that your patience e will be rewarded – especially when you learn of other Philly goodies that will come in its wake.
The first bumper release will be ‘The Roots of PIR’. This compilation is being prepared by RICHARD SEARLING and as the title suggests RICHARD will be highlighting tracks that KENNY GAMBLE and LEON HUFF worked on prior to forming their most famous of labels. The set will also include an exclusive DVD interview with KENNY GAMBLE.
Following on, in February 2012, comes ‘Philadelphia International: The Tom Moulton Remixes’. Self-explanatory really – ace mixer TOM MOULTON gets to tweak 15 more Philly classics … and as a bonus the set will feature 16 of his original, timeless Philly remixes.
After that comes the “pièce de resistance” of the campaign – ‘Philadelphia International: 40th Anniversary Box Set’. Here, PIR expert RALPH TEE goes through the complete history of PIR with a lovingly compiled 10CD deluxe box set with 60 page booklet plus more of that exclusive DVD interview with KENNY GAMBLE.
To publicise the campaign, KENNY GAMBLE will be visiting the UK in November for a series of events and interviews and you can rest assured that souljazzandfunk will keep you fully updated!
