PHILADELPHIA TREASURE TROVE

PHILADELPHIA TREASURE TROVE

UK soul veteran MIKE WARD of Sheffield’s Inda Soul Productions has been working closely with the people at Philadelphia’s legendary Jamie/Guyden label to make countless long lost Philly soul treasures more easily accessible. Jamie Records has a history that goes back to 1957 and amongst its subsidiaries were legendary imprints like Guyden, Arctic, Phil-LA of Soul and Dionn and its claim to be the only 50s indie soul label still operating is irrefutable.
Though Jamie still makes occasional recordings, it is now concentrating its energies on re-releasing scores of long lost soul treasures from its archive. Amongst the current crop on offer are albums on the SOUL BROTHERS 6, THE PEOPLES CHOICE, MAGNUM, HONEY AND THE BEES, THE SPRINGERS, THE AMBASSADORS and THE ETHICS – who, of course, featured a young RON TYSON and were produced by THOM BELL. There are also a number of excellent compilations available, featuring collectable cuts from the likes of HAROLD MELVIN AND THE BLUE NOTES, KENNY GAMBLE, POOKIE HUDSON and the TEMPTONES – DARYL HALL’S first group.
