Various US web sites are reporting the death on Sunday, May 19th. of soul and gospel singer and occasional actress, PEGGI BLU. No details are forthcoming save that she was 77.
Ms Blu was born in North Carolina and began singing as a child. She went professional aged just 14 when she joined Bishop Walters traveling gospel choir. Walters was her uncle. Based in NYC Peggi then started to work the gospel session circuit before finding work with secular artists. Her credits include work with Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, Quincy Jones and Stephanie Mills.
In 1986 Peggi won a major US TV Talent Show and landed a solo contract with MCA where she enjoyed success with ‘All The Way With You’ and ‘Tender Moments’.
More recently Peggi became one of the vocal coaches on ‘American Idol’. In 2002 her album ‘Livin’ On Love’ was issued by Expansion while she’s also worked with the Cool Million team.
