Here’s an advance heads up about a single that’s not out till July – July 6th to be precise! That just happens to be PHYLISS HYMAN’S birthday – and there’s the clue to what this lovely new song’s all about and why we’re giving you plenty of advance notice.
Ms Hyman died tragically too young in 1995 but she left a wonderful legacy that’s made her something of a smooth soul heroine amongst knowing music connoisseurs. Her emotive work has also influenced countless other aspiring singers – amongst them CANDACE WOODSON.
Though raised in the righteous gospel tradition, Ms Woodson has huge admiration for Phyllis, so with the sadly missed diva’s birthday on its way, it was a no brainer for Candace and her team to create a tribute to celebrate what would have been her 75th birthday.
What Candace has come up with is a sumptuous ‘Over And Over’ – a cut that’s built from all the ingredients that made Phyllis’ work so attractive . It’s smooth, lush and sophisticated but just like the diva’s own work there’s no blandness about it. It’s searingly soulful and emotion packed and, what’s more, the lyric cleverly works in the titles of many of Ms H’s best loved recordings!
