The soul singing son of Otis Redding, OTIS REDDING III has died. The news was announced yesterday, Wednesday 19th April, by his sister Karla Redding-Andrews who said that “It is with heavy hearts that the family of Otis Redding III confirms that he lost his battle with cancer last evening.” No more details are forthcoming save that he was aged 59 and passed away at Macon, Georgia’s Atrium Health Medical Centre.
With a stellar pedigree it was clear that young Otis would make a career in music and his first forays in the business were with family group, The Reddings. Their successes included ‘Remote Control’, ‘Call The Law’ and a remake of ‘Sittin’ On The Dock of The Bay’.
Redding, a talented guitarist as well as a powerful singer, then pursued a solo career. He also worked for his family’s philanthropic organization, The Otis Redding Foundation. He participated in the annual Otis Redding Singer/Songwriter Camp and also mentored young musical hopefuls.
