Earlier this year SOUL BANK RECORDS issued a splendid retrospective on UK keyboard maestro, BRIAN AUGER. ‘Auger Incorporated’ offered 26 tracks from Brian’s personal archive (7 previously unreleased) and the label now follow that with a another “Auger-fest”!
‘Far Horizons’ – the new collection – presents four studio albums recorded by Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll & The Trinity. Fans will know that the Trinty grew out of the ashes of Long John Baldry’s and Brian Auger’s previous group, The Steampacket, an R&B Revue collective, which also featured a then barely known Rod Stewart and Julie Driscoll . Auger’s aim for the new band was to create a music that, he said, “lies along a straight line drawn between pop and jazz and aims at the ‘fusion’ of both elements”. And though jazz purists derided what Brian was striving for, the savvy record buyers took the Trinty’s music to their hearts and the band became a big live draw and enjoyed hits like the seminal and still relevant, ‘This Wheels On Fire’ & ‘Save Me’.
Amongst the highlights in this box set are versions of the Beatle’s ‘A Day In The Life’ and Laura Nyro’s ‘Save The Country’
