SOULFULEDGE is the musical alter ego of Russell Pollitt and over the last year or so he’s enjoyed a collaborative relationship with UK singer/songwriter KERRIE MASTERS and their latest joint offering is really rather interesting – a cover of Michael Jackson’s 1987 classic ‘P. Y. T. Pretty Young Thing’!
What a brave thing to do! Russell and Kerrie, however, wisely don’t try to copy the original ; where that original was a driving, disco affair, this new take is much more gentle. There’s a techno flavour for sure but also a definite, lazy, jazzy undertow made the more attractive by Kerrie’s convincing vocal.
For something even more different try the “Ugly Old Dub” which, for dancers everywhere, ups the tempo and features just snippets of the vocal adding an hypnotic quality to proceedings. File both mixes under “interesting”! And if you like ‘em, there’s instrumentals available too!
