If you like your soul dramatic and provocative, may we point you to a new single, ‘Doormat’ from NICKY LAWRENCE,
Canada’s Ms Lawrence describes herself as “a forward thinking innovator, singer, songwriter, actor, playwright and director” and she’s made a name for herself in and around Toronto for her critically acclaimed theatrical production – ‘Ugly Black Woman’. The work, she tells us “is an expression of the lived experiences which I’ve survived…. from sweeping success to heart breaking lows”. Essentially, it’s an exploration of what Black women go through in love and life.
The album of the show is on the way and the aforementioned ‘Doormat’ is the first single. You’ll have guessed by now that it’s not an easy listen – it’s a powerful, neo-soul soliloquy with the message that “When friends try to become lovers one inevitability thinks they can step on the other”.
