It’s the BBC Proms season and you may remember that one of the highlights of last year’s music fest was a Northern Soul concert. Curated by Wigan’s own Stuart Maconie, the show went on the road earlier this year and now due to phenomenal demand more shows have been added.
This November, Maconie, alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra and Manchester’s composer and conductor Joe Duddell will perform four very special shows at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Monday 25th, Manchester O2 Apollo on Tuesday 26th, Stockton Globe on Thursday 28th and Birmingham Symphony Hall on Friday 29th November.
As on the Prom itself, the orchestra will perform amazing new arrangements, by Fiona Brice and Joe Duddell, of Northern Soul classic anthems with a host of very special guest vocalists.
Matthew Swann Director of the BBC Concert Orchestra says: “The BBC Concert Orchestra first performed this hugely successful stomping celebration of Northern Soul music at the BBC Proms in 2023, and we are thrilled that the passion for it continues. The orchestra and a fantastic line-up of singers celebrate this joyous British club culture movement that took towns across the North and Midlands in 1960s and 70s by storm with a concert that will bring people together, get audiences on their feet and will be enjoyed by original fans as well as well as those just discovering it”
