Rotterdam’s fabled North Sea Jazz Festival, which began in 1976 and is the biggest annual indoor festival in the world, will soon be upon us again. Scheduled to run from 12th-14th July 2019, it always manages to attract a jaw-dropping array of artists. This year is no exception. Those who have been announced so far include the biggest names from jazz, soul and R&B.
Topping the list is undoubtedly the legendary composer, BURT BACHARACH, who at 90 is still going strong and looking to challenge Tony Bennett as the world’s oldest active performer.
The veteran composer will be joined at North Sea by jazz superstars DIANA KRALL, JAMIE CULLUM and BOBBY McFERRIN as well as R&B chanteuses, LAURYN HILL and JANELLE MONAE.
Among the other artists just confirmed for the festival are a clutch of contemporary jazz heavyweights with KAMASI WASHINGTON and AMBROSE AKINMUSIRE leading the way, plus JOSHUA REDMAN, CHRIS POTTER, SHAI MAESTRO, BOBO STENSON, CHRISTIAN SANDS and the MICHEL CAMILO QUARTET. Veteran South African pianist, ABDULLAHA IBRAHIM, will also be making an appearance, as will US rock band, TOTO, who along with British singer/songwriter, JOE JACKSON, and US hip-hop star, CHANCE THE RAPPER succeed in adding to the eclectic flavour of the festival.
As time goes by, more acts will be announced. Check out the programme of events here: https://www.northseajazz.com/en/program/
