Indie soul heroine LEDISI’S latest album is something a little different… a tribute to NINA SIMONE. The title says it all really – ‘LEDISI SINGS NINA’.
The album offers seven songs which Ledisi believes are of social and personal import. They include ‘I’m Going Back Home’, ‘Four Women’ (with guest cameos from Lisa Fisher, Lizz Wright and Alice Smith) and ‘Wild Is The Wind’.
‘Ledisi Sings Nina’ is the artist’s tenth album and is the culmination of a series of projects revealing the depth of Ledisi’s continuing sense of gratitude and debt to Ms Simone whom Ledisi calls her “shero.” In the past eight years, Ledisi has produced and toured popular tribute shows to Simone, and performed concerts on television, in major concert halls and at music festivals, featuring her interpreting Simone’s songs and explaining her importance and history. The album will be released on July 23rd.
