Singer / songwriter MAXINE SCOTT is one of a growing breed of UK femme soulsters who proffer a contemporary twist on classic soul. Maybe they were inspired by dear Amy Winehouse? A glance at Ms Scott’s CV however reveals that maybe one of her greatest influences was Erykah Badu. Maxine’s 2022 EP, ‘Eryka U Bad EP’ sort of said it all – an atmospheric hybrid of 90’s R&B, Nujazz and neo-soul that offered 5 mixes of the one song, ‘Eryka U Bad’.
Maxine’s latest single is a little different. It’s a sweet and summery ‘New To This’ which speaks of the issues that are thrown up at the start of a new relationship. Maxine’s candy-coated vocals perfectly deliver the uncertainty, shyness and doubts that are always there when launching into a new liaison.
