MY OLD DUTCH

alt

Last month we enjoyed a mellow, jazzy, dance groove ‘Rooftop Conversations’ from Dutch bass player, producer, remixer, electronic live artist and record label owner ODED NIR. A little different to your average soulful house tune, it featured some cool trumpet from Ms Saskia Laroo (aka the Dutch ‘Lady Miles Davis’).

We were told that is was the title track to an upcoming album … and lo and behold that LP is now with us. The nine tracker offers more of Mr Nir’s off the wall take on soulful house. For instance on ‘Double Bass’ he shows off his bass skills, on ‘TLB Blues’ – a down tempo moment – he offers a  bass-heavy contemporary take on the blues idiom while ‘That’s The Scat’ (with Warren Byrd) is, well,  a house-flavoured look at scat jazz singing!

The album’s not all off the wall though. ‘Again and Again’ is a classic soulful house groove while ‘Northern Dreams’ is a model of Ibizan chill out and don’t ignore the album’s title cut… all very intriguing, interesting and, yes – a little different!

Rooftop Conversations’ album is out now on Traxsource Exclusive April 26th / Full release May 10th 2019 on Suntree Records.
