US saxophonist JOHNNY JAMES DR. J is currently making waves with his smooth and sophisticated cover of the 1984 Steve Perry song, ‘Foolish Heart’. The good Dr’s version ticks all the requisite smooth jazz boxes and it features a convincing vocal from Sangindiva. Adding more heft to the disc are the contributions of stellar players Erik Blu2th Griggs, Greg Phillinganes, and Norman Brown.
Sadly we don’t know too much about the fine-sounding singer, Sangindiva. What we do know is that she currently tours with Jeffery Osborne but her vocal here is powerful and emotive – a perfect foil to Mr James’ mellifluous sax work.
