DAVE LEE (aka Joey Negro) is celebrating 30 years of his rather special niche label Z RECORDS. To mark the occasion the label is releasing an EP that features two new Lee productions…. ‘Power Of The Mind’ and ‘Manhattan Skyline’.
The former is a full-on old-school soul workout with vocals from the Valentine Brothers (you will, of course, remember their original version of ‘Money’s Too Tight Too Mention’). With grit and conviction, they expound the pertinent sentiment that we should all think for ourselves and not be fooled by fake news. The rhythms and rocking piano give the tune a distinct 90s feel.
‘Manhattan Skyline’ will be familiar to fans of ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and here Dave gets his AC Soul Symphony to deliver the tune – a little touch of blaxploitation, plenty of glitter ball vibes and a nod to Salsoul explain why the mix is labelled “Spirit of 77”. Out now!
